Types of translation
Translating is not just merely substituting a word from one language with one from another. Above all, it means understanding the deep message and finding the best way to replicate it with the sentences, words and references of another language. The most suitable kind of translation varies according to the type of text, its goal, topic and target audience.
Love it!
Free rein to your imagination, but in another language: I choose the right words, and if they don’t exist, I invent them.
Creative translation, also called transcreation, is a mix of translation, creativity and copywriting: here I can let my imagination run wild and find appealing, evocative and effective solutions.
Transcreation is used for marketing texts, advertisements, brochures, leaflets, presentations, newsletters or web sites in English which need to be translated, localized and sometimes redesigned from scratch into Italian. That’s exactly what I do: to get an Italian text that catches your attention and is impressive, starting from a creative English one.
A jaw-dropping text that makes you dream.
Shall I tell you a secret? Creative translation is my favourite by far! It seems easy-peasy, but it’s anything but: we often have space limits for words or letters, and the perfect translation for an English term usually requires more than one word in Italian, so you have to think of a different solution – or even invent a new one.
My job is to not only translate the textual part of a document, but also consider the supporting pictures and videos and transfer them as well. Commercials are often designed by foreign agencies that include specific cultural references from their country in the visuals. These must be translated as well – we call this localizing! For instance, if an ad designed in the US that has to be shared in Italy as well shows people eating typical American fast food like burritos, we need to remember that this food is not common in small Italian towns and wouldn’t be understood. So we need to suggest an alternative that could evoke the same feelings and be effective at same time for the Italian audience: for example, we can show pizza instead of burritos. It is the quintessential Italian delivery food – pizza is always the solution!
The best way to have a specialized English text translated into Italian is to give it to me
When a text is about specific topics, it involves specialized translation and we need to be careful about jargon. After all, every field has its own sector-specific terminology, made of terms that tell its history and features. You need to know it, understand it, and be able to transfer it into Italian to give life to a perfect translation.
It’s also crucial that you’re familiar with the topic, its dynamics, the features of the texts that describe it, the target audience: this is the only way to get the perfect result, mixing all the ingredients together carefully.
Specialized translations can include medical texts, fashion catalogues, beauty product descriptions, and training equipment.
My comfort areas
What I love most about my job is to have always the chance to learn something new at every assignment, but I’m only human so I can’t know everything. That’s why I decided to only work in those fields I feel passionate about even outside of work, and that I know very well both in English and Italian for several reasons.

How much it costs
Every translation project is unique, so I can’t give you a fixed rate: it depends on many factors, such as the topic, complexity, length, and objectives of the text.
The best thing to do is to get in contact using the dedicated form, sharing all the required details and the documents to be translated. That way I’ll be able to send you a quote with rates and timing.
Generally, a 1,000-word text that is not too specialized starts at €150.00 + VAT. If you work for a company and would like a quote for regular collaboration on your texts, visit the Internationalization page.
